The Story Begins:
A large bubble drifted down from the sky, nudged by a gentle breeze…
…Nell stopped working in her garden and gazed at the approaching bubble in wonder. The bubble seemed attracted to Nell and slowed as it neared her face. It floated at Nell’s eye level, inviting her to look within its liquid walls.
Inside of the bubble, hanging from a fine thread of silk, was a message…
…It said: “You are invited to open our treasure chest. Hidden inside is a secret. Follow the Gale River to Brightglen. Come, and you will not be disappointed.”
Embrace the Journey
A Summary:
Knowledge of a distant treasure inspires three companions to embark upon a journey. The way is arduous and fraught with peril: a vicious storm batters them, an inky black night renders them blind, and a fire breathing monster causes them to fear for their lives. Yet our heroes persist through each bleak encounter. Their journey is a metaphor for life. Obstacles are overcome through redemptive acts: acts of compassion, selflessness, and friendship. Hope is embodied by a lighthouse piercing darkness, help from a stranger, and fellowship found in a broken village. The story is a carefully constructed fable, with a hint of fairy tale magic. Subtle ideas found within the adventure gradually build toward a prize worthy of a treasure chest.
Our Philosophy
Beyond the Lighthouse, Over the Mountains…
…is a children’s story - with pictures. It is designed for inquisitive young people who prefer a story with genuine content and substance, yet still appreciate the presence of immersive illustrations that bring to life an imagined world.
‘Beyond the Lighthouse’ likes to think of itself as ‘sophisticated’ (…but don’t we all wink). It is a tale for thoughtful children: to be read and re-read as a child gradually unwinds ideas woven into prose. It is built upon the premise that kids are smart, and their ability to comprehend is sometimes underestimated.
‘Beyond the Lighthouse’ is a tale of contrasting experiences, where cozy spaces and beautiful places exist within the context of a formidable journey and dire situations: because comfort is best appreciated through the lens of discomfort.
Finally, this book is intended to be shared - with a friend, a parent, a child. We recommend finding a cozy spot, tuck in close, and embrace a fantastic journey - Together.
